Every Road Leads Back to You

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You left your red scarf on the garden chair The kettle clicked, the morning filled with rain I found your note beneath the sugar tin “Take the long road home; come back again” [Pre-Chorus] So I packed light, with your words in my coat And followed the river past the fields [Chorus] When the wide world opens up before us I will find my way back to your door Every mile becomes a little promise I’m not lost the way I was before If the road runs out beneath the blue sky I’ll keep going, keeping you in view There’s a place for me in every sunrise And every road keeps leading back to you [Drop] Back to you Back to you Every road keeps leading back to you [Verse 2] At the station, old man swept the floor A paper cup rolled under the bench I watched the hills come rising through the glass And let the passing rain wash clean the lens [Pre-Chorus] Your handwriting stayed folded in my coat A little map I knew by heart [Chorus] When the wide world opens up before us I will find my way back to your door Every mile becomes a little promise I’m not lost the way I was before If the road runs out beneath the blue sky I’ll keep going, keeping you in view There’s a place for me in every sunrise And every road keeps leading back to you [Bridge] Keep the porch light on, I’m almost there I can smell the cut grass in the air No more miles between the words we knew I’m coming home, I’m coming back to you [Final Chorus] When the wide world opens up before us I have found my way back to your door Every mile became a little promise I’m not lost the way I was before Now the road runs out beneath the blue sky And your open arms come into view There’s a place for me in every sunrise And every road keeps leading back to you [Outro] Back to you Every road keeps leading back to you
