Simone’s Sleeve of Wizard

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Simone keeps a secret stitched beneath her coat A purple thread of thunder and a paper boat She rolls up one sleeve when the evening gets cold And tiny silver symbols start to take hold [Pre-Chorus] She says, “Don’t ask the tailor,” with a sideways grin Then the cuffs begin to sparkle from the skin within [Chorus] Simone’s sleeve of wizard, turning soft hands bright Pocket full of moon dust, borrowed from the night She doesn’t need a castle, she doesn’t need a throne She makes a little magic everywhere she goes [Verse 2] At the laundromat on Tuesday, the machines all froze A dragon on her forearm yawned and struck a pose She waved it toward the dryers, said, “Behave yourself” Then folded all the warm socks like a story on a shelf [Pre-Chorus] The neighbors heard a thunderclap, the dog began to bark Simone just found her missing keys beneath a glowing mark [Chorus] Simone’s sleeve of wizard, turning soft hands bright Pocket full of moon dust, borrowed from the night She doesn’t need a castle, she doesn’t need a throne She makes a little magic everywhere she goes [Bridge] If the world gets heavy, if the streetlights blink She draws a crooked doorway at the kitchen sink One step through the blue ink, one laugh and then She’s back beside us, ordinary again [Final Chorus] Simone’s sleeve of wizard, turning soft hands bright Pocket full of moon dust, borrowed from the night She doesn’t need a castle, she doesn’t need a throne She makes a little magic everywhere she goes [Outro] Roll it down, Simone, keep the secret close Leave a little stardust on the sleeve of your coat
