Libolo, Bring Me Near

Lyrics

[Intro] Libolo, morning on the red earth Dust on the hem of your Sunday shirt You call my name from the market lane And the whole day turns around again [Verse 1] Auntie’s doorway, kettle on the flame Little ones racing, shouting my name You tuck a mango into my hand Then lead me laughing past the football stand [Pre-Chorus] By the river, the boats lean slow You say, “Come closer, let the good wind blow” One small step and the circle grows Everybody knows [Chorus] Libolo, bring me near Where the old songs meet the new this year Libolo, hand in hand We make a home wherever we stand Oh, turn around, let the day roll on Call my name when the sun goes down Libolo, bring me near I can find my way from here [Verse 2] Blue cloth drying on the courtyard line Your cousin pours me a cup of wine The drumbeat travels from wall to wall Even the quiet ones answer the call [Pre-Chorus] By the river, the boats lean slow You say, “Come closer, let the good wind blow” One small step and the circle grows Everybody knows [Chorus] Libolo, bring me near Where the old songs meet the new this year Libolo, hand in hand We make a home wherever we stand Oh, turn around, let the day roll on Call my name when the sun goes down Libolo, bring me near I can find my way from here [Bridge] If the road runs long, keep a place for me Save a seat beneath the mango tree When the first rain taps the tin roof twice I’ll be back before you ask me twice [Final Chorus] Libolo, bring me near Where the old songs meet the new this year Libolo, hand in hand We make a home wherever we stand Oh, turn around, let the day roll on Call my name when the sun goes down Libolo, bring me near I can find my way from here [Outro] Libolo, morning on the red earth Dust on the hem of your Sunday shirt
