Still Held, Still Moving On

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Mama kept a Bible by the kitchen phone I learned to pray before I learned to roam Bus pass bent in the pocket of my jeans Big plans folded up with the rent receipts My friends had trouble calling after dark I knew that pull, I knew that hungry heart When my pride said, “You can make it on your own” You met me at the curb and walked me home [Pre-Chorus] I still get tested, still get it wrong But grace keeps finding me when I’ve been gone [Chorus] I’m still here, still held, still learning to stand With a little more hope and some dirt on my hands When the road gets rough, I know where I belong I’ve been carried this far, and I’m still moving on [Verse 2] Corner store clerk knows the weight of my week Says, “Keep your head up,” when I can’t even speak I’ve seen good hearts get caught in a bad run I’ve seen a hard night turn with the morning sun No gold chain could buy what the mercy gave No tough talk could pull me out of that grave So I show up for my people, do the work, make amends Tell the truth, share a meal, keep room for a friend [Pre-Chorus] I still get tested, still get it wrong But grace keeps finding me when I’ve been gone [Chorus] I’m still here, still held, still learning to stand With a little more hope and some dirt on my hands When the road gets rough, I know where I belong I’ve been carried this far, and I’m still moving on [Bridge] If my brother hits a wall, I’ll sit there awhile If my sister loses faith, I’ll remind her to smile We can walk through the mess, we can start where we are There is room at the table, there is light in the dark [Final Chorus] I’m still here, still held, still learning to stand With a little more hope and some dirt on my hands When the road gets rough, I know where I belong I’ve been carried this far, and I’m still moving on [Outro] Still moving on Still held, still moving on
