Pinky Up, Darling

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You set the saucer by the window Two shortbread moons beside the tea Your thrift-store coat, a little crooked You make a ceremony of me [Pre-Chorus] No silver tray, no grand affair Just a chipped cup and careful air You tilt your chin, I catch the cue The smallest things look good on you [Chorus] Pinky up, darling, let the whole room wait We’ve got one warm cup and a little bit of cake Pinky up, darling, make a small thing shine A private little kingdom, and the afternoon is mine [Verse 2] You fold the paper from the market Into a crown for your black cat We toast the crumbs, you name the moment Then tuck the ribbon in your hat [Pre-Chorus] No silver tray, no grand affair Just a chipped cup and careful air You tilt your chin, I catch the cue The smallest things look good on you [Chorus] Pinky up, darling, let the whole room wait We’ve got one warm cup and a little bit of cake Pinky up, darling, make a small thing shine A private little kingdom, and the afternoon is mine [Bridge] When the kettle clicks, we’ll start again With jam on toast and a crooked pen You pass me the last sugared bite I make a toast to getting it right [Final Chorus] Pinky up, darling, let the whole room wait We’ve got one warm cup and a little bit of cake Pinky up, darling, make a small thing shine A private little kingdom, and the afternoon is mine [Outro] One more sip, then we’ll decide What grand occasion comes next in our lives
