Cody

Lyrics

LEGAL METH AND HVAC [Verse 1] Down in Southern Iowa, where the cornfields grow, There’s a boy named Cody that the whole town knows. He’s got a good heart, but he’s made mistakes, Been down that road more times than he can take. Got a pocket full of trouble and a head full of steam, Livin’ too fast, chasin’ somebody else’s dream. One day he’s workin’, got his whole life planned, Next thing you know, he’s back in the can. [Chorus] Oh, Cody, Cody, what a hell of a ride, Got a little bit of crazy and a whole lot of pride. From Southern Iowa to the Kansas City lights, He’s been knocked down hard, but he keeps up the fight. He can fix your furnace, make your AC blow, He’s got a few bad chapters, but he’s still got room to grow. Yeah, life tried to break him, but it never could, Cody’s still standin’ — just a misunderstood good dude! [Verse 2] He knows every back road, every county line, Knows what it costs when you run out of time. Those prison doors slammed, heard that old steel ring, But a man can learn a lot from a bad damn thing. When he’s out on the job, he’s a hell of a hand, With a meter and a wrench, he can fix what he can. Heat pumps, compressors, refrigerant lines, He can bring a dead unit back to life every time. Yeah, he’s had some trouble, got a record to show, But there’s more to a man than the places he’s been before. He packed up his past, left the old town behind, Headed west for a chance at a different kind of life. [Verse 3] Now he’s down in KC, and he’s doin’ all right, Got a decent career and a little peace of mind. No more chasin’ shadows every day of the week, Got a doctor helpin’ him get what he needs. Yeah, the meth is legal, got a prescription in hand, Turns out a little help can change the course of a man. He’s showin’ up to work, got his feet on the ground, And the boy from Southern Iowa is turnin’ things around. He ain’t perfect, hell, he never claimed to be, But he’s finally got a shot at the life he wants to lead. Sometimes the road gets rough, sometimes the past comes through, But Cody’s got a future, and he’s makin’ it brand-new. [Bridge - Half-Time, Heavy Guitars] He’s been locked up, knocked down, Been the talk of a one-stoplight town. But a prison number ain’t a man’s whole name, And the past don’t get to own his future the same. One more chance, one more day, One more reason not to throw it all away. From the Iowa dirt to the Kansas City skyline, He’s finally gettin’ somewhere, one day at a time! [Final Chorus - Big, Loud, Full Band] Oh, Cody, Cody, look at you now! Still got that wild side, but you’ve figured it out! From Southern Iowa to the KC lights, Turnin’ wrenches, earnin’ money, gettin’ your life right! He can fix your furnace, make your AC blow, He’s got a hell of a story and a long way to go. Yeah, life tried to break him, but it never could, Cody’s still standin’ — and he’s doin’ damn good! [Outro - Guitars Ringing Out] So crank up the truck, let that V-twin roar, Cody ain’t the same man he was before. From the cornfields of Iowa to the Kansas City streets, A little legal meth and some HVAC beats! Yeah, he’s still Cody, misunderstood but true… And if your furnace quits, hell, he might fix that too!
