Casey’s Notebook

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Casey keeps a notebook folded in her coat, Bus pass, two keys, big plans in every note. She knows which corner shop stays open after ten, Says hello to the old man, asks how he’s been. She’s got paint on her sleeve from the sign she made, Turned a blank shop window to a bright parade. When they say “be realistic,” she just grins, Writes the next move down and gets to work again. [Chorus] Casey, Casey, making her way, One small brave step, then another each day. Hands on the plan, eyes on the prize, She builds her own road right in front of their eyes. Casey, Casey, steady and true, If the door won’t open, she’ll make one come through. [Verse 2] She picks up extra shifts, saves every spare, Keeps a little seed packet tucked by the chair. Friday night, she’s teaching kids how to draw, Big paper suns taped up along the hall. Her little brother says, “You really think we can?” She says, “We start with what we’ve got in our hands.” Then she maps out the market, calls the landlord twice, Turns a maybe into something solid, clear, and nice. [Chorus] Casey, Casey, making her way, One small brave step, then another each day. Hands on the plan, eyes on the prize, She builds her own road right in front of their eyes. Casey, Casey, steady and true, If the door won’t open, she’ll make one come through. [Bridge] No borrowed crown, no shortcut lane, She learns what she needs, then she tries again. By the time they notice what she’s become, The whole block’s gathered and the work is done. [Final Chorus] Casey, Casey, making her way, One small brave step, then another each day. Hands on the plan, eyes on the prize, She builds her own road right in front of their eyes. Casey, Casey, steady and true, If the door won’t open, she’ll make one come through. [Outro] Notebook shut, but the next page is clean, Casey’s already got a brand-new scheme.
