John, Buy Some Food

Lyrics

[Verse 1] John’s at the stove, the morning’s wearing thin Dom and Clifford’s stomachs start to kick again “Can you hurry up? We’ve been waiting half the day!” Toast in the pan, coffee on, then roast gets in the way You clatter every pot like a marching-band parade We’re laughing through the racket, but we’re hungry, mate [Chorus] John, buy some food, put the pie on the list We love you, big heart, even when breakfast gets missed Cliff and Dom are grumbling, but they’re saving you a plate John, buy some food before it’s getting late [Verse 2] Every day, John’s a good guy, everybody knows Sometimes he forgets the pie, and that’s just how it goes He’s got a duck one day—well, that’s the story told We love him all the same, though the kitchen’s getting cold He trips up now and then, but he always means it well A generous heart can make a breakfast tale to tell [Chorus] John, buy some food, put the pie on the list We love you, big heart, even when breakfast gets missed Cliff and Dom are grumbling, but they’re saving you a plate John, buy some food before it’s getting late [Bridge] When I see the Mexicans, the story takes a turn There’s a bill to sort out and a lesson left to learn But the kettle’s singing, and the table’s set for three We’ll talk it out together—come and sit with me [Final Chorus] John, buy some food, put the pie on the list We love you, big heart, even when breakfast gets missed Cliff and Dom are grumbling, but they’re saving you a plate John, buy some food before it’s getting late Love you, Cliff and Dom, now come and eat—don’t wait!
