Our Talking Tree

Lyrics

[Verse 1] By the schoolyard fence where the clover grows, Stands a tall old maple with a tickly nose. When the morning bus gives a little toot, He shakes his leaves and says, “Good morning, you!” [Chorus] “Hello, hello!” says the tree to me, “Come sit awhile in my company! I’ve got a tale and a shady seat, And a thousand little friends with dancing feet!” [Verse 2] A robin asks, “Can I borrow a twig?” “Take the one that’s loose,” says the tree, “not big!” A squirrel brings an acorn, round and brown, The tree says, “Thanks! Let’s plant it down!” [Chorus] “Hello, hello!” says the tree to me, “Come sit awhile in my company! I’ve got a tale and a shady seat, And a thousand little friends with dancing feet!” [Bridge] “Who needs a hat?” “The robin does!” “Who needs a home?” “The squirrel, because!” “Who gives us shade when the sun is high?” “Our talking tree—give a leafy hi!” [Final Chorus] “Hello, hello!” says the tree to me, “Come sit awhile in my company! I’ve got a tale and a shady seat, And a thousand little friends with dancing feet!” [Outro] “See you tomorrow!” the branches sway, “Bring one good story when you come to play!”
