Lyrics

[Verse 1] Mali, your blue scarf caught on the chair You laughed and left it hanging there Tea cooling beside the window frame I still remember how you said my name [Pre-Chorus] The market folded up at dusk You chose the mangoes, I carried the basket Small things stay when seasons pass Your hand in mine, the road made gold [Chorus] Mali, when you call, I come around Past the river road and the old school grounds Mali, keep a place for me Where the red earth meets the tamarind tree [Verse 2] Rain tapped softly on the tin roof You told me what you hoped to do A little shop with a yellow door And room for every friend who came ashore [Pre-Chorus] The market folded up at dusk You chose the mangoes, I carried the basket Small things stay when seasons pass Your hand in mine, the road made gold [Chorus] Mali, when you call, I come around Past the river road and the old school grounds Mali, keep a place for me Where the red earth meets the tamarind tree [Bridge] If the miles grow wide between us If the years change what we know I will find that yellow doorway I will take the road back home [Final Chorus] Mali, when you call, I come around Past the river road and the old school grounds Mali, keep a place for me Where the red earth meets the tamarind tree [Outro] Mali, keep a place for me By the tamarind tree
