Mirrors

Lyrics

[Intro - soft guitar, spoken] There's a sign up on my wall No glass, no frame, no mirror at all Just words [Verse 1 - rap] People walk into my house and they stop at the door Read the sign that I made, then they look at the floor Ain't no mirror on the wall, just some letters in a line But they reading every scar that I've carried in my mind Every crack in this paint, every stain on the rug Every night that I fought, every time I got up This ain't just a home, this a picture of my soul You can see where I been, you can see where I go [Pre-Chorus - sung] You don't need the glass to see me It's all right here [Chorus - sung, melodic, layered harmonies] This is my reflection No mirror, just the truth on the wall This is my reflection Every rise and every fall You can judge me, you can stare But I'm finally standing there This is my reflection And I ain't hiding it at all [Verse 2 - rap] Used to hate what I saw when I looked at myself So I took down the mirror and I put it on the shelf Now I write who I am where the whole world can read Not the man that I was, but the man I'ma be Some people get it, some people don't Some see a broken man, some see hope I don't know what they think when they leave out my door But I know who I am and I ain't scared no more [Pre-Chorus - sung] You don't need the glass to see me It's all right here [Chorus - sung, melodic, layered harmonies] This is my reflection No mirror, just the truth on the wall This is my reflection Every rise and every fall You can judge me, you can stare But I'm finally standing there This is my reflection And I ain't hiding it at all [Bridge - beat drops out, guitar only] If you looked at me back then You'd have seen somebody lost Now I'm writing it in ink Every lesson, every cost [Final Chorus - bigger, double-tracked] This is my new reflection No mirror, just the truth on the wall This is my new reflection Every rise and every fall You can judge me, you can stare But I'm finally standing there This is my new reflection And I ain't hiding it at all [Outro - fade, echoed] This is my reflection This is my reflection [End]
