Hands Lifting Me

Lyrics

BACK TO ZERO Verse 1 This ain’t the first time I’ve been pulled to zero, Watched the things I worked for slip away. Stared up at the ceiling after midnight, Trying to find the words I ought to pray. “Lord, I thought we’d made it through this valley. I thought I’d finally found some solid ground.” But here I am with nothing left to lean on, Remembering You’ve never let me down. Chorus Back to zero, Lord, here I am again, Empty-handed, asking where do I begin? Sometimes I think You let me reach the bottom So I can see whose hands are lifting me. When something grows where nothing ought to grow, When hope comes back where only hurt has been, There won’t be any question who gets the glory— You’re the One who builds it back again. Verse 2 I remember counting change for gasoline, Wondering how I’d make another week. Then a job came through on Monday morning, And a friend brought groceries I couldn’t keep. I’ve called a few things luck along the highway, Taken credit where it wasn’t mine to take. But looking back from where I’m standing, I can see Your mercy all the way. Bridge I won’t pretend I understand the reasons, And I won’t say the losing doesn’t hurt. But You’ve been faithful through too many seasons For me to think You’ve left me in this dirt. So give me strength to do tomorrow’s work, Lord, And faith enough to leave the rest with You. When I’ve got more than what I need, remind me Of the empty hands You helped me through. Final Chorus Back to zero, but I’ve been here before, And I’ve seen You open up another door. I’ll take the next step even while I’m trembling, Trust the hands that carried me back then. When something grows where nothing ought to grow, I’ll tell the story everywhere I go. There won’t be any question who gets the glory— You’re the One who builds it back again. Outro This ain’t the first time I’ve been pulled to zero. You’ve met me here before, and here You are. Whatever comes from what I lay before You, Let it show the whole world who You are.
