The Porch Light for Chew

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Chew keeps a pocket watch that lost its hands A paper map of roads he understands Fifty-five years and a stubborn stride He waves from the porch as the buses roll by [Chorus] Go on, Chew, take your time The long way home is still a road worth finding You’ve got your own kind of fire inside Go on, Chew, with your head held high [Verse 2] He knows which dog will bark before the gate He saves the Sunday comics, though they’re late At the corner store, he carries Mrs. Lane’s bags And tells the same good joke till the whole room laughs [Chorus] Go on, Chew, take your time The long way home is still a road worth finding You’ve got your own kind of fire inside Go on, Chew, with your head held high [Bridge] Some folks talk too fast, some look away But Chew remembers every kindness you gave When the town hall lights burn low and blue There’s always one more chair pulled out for Chew [Guitar Solo] [Final Chorus] Go on, Chew, take your time The long way home is still a road worth finding You’ve got your own kind of fire inside Go on, Chew, with your head held high Go on, Chew, let the whole town know A life is more than the pace you go [Outro] The porch light’s on, the evening’s through There’s room at the table for Chew
