Room at the Table

Lyrics

[Intro] (Paper turn, bell chime) Hey—come on [Verse 1] Sunday shoes by the doorway, rain on the glass Mama says, “Take your time, child, grace moves fast” There’s a worn little Bible with a note in the seam And a promise I carry when the week gets mean At the table we make room, pass the bread, pass the plate A prayer for the tired and the ones who came late I don’t have every answer, I still learn as I go But I’m finding a way to let compassion show [Pre-Chorus] When I stumble, when I’m unsure I remember what love is for Every day, in the small things we do There’s a path leading me back to You [Chorus] God, keep my heart open, keep my hands kind Let me see my neighbor, leave no one behind Through the pages and the people, through the joy and the strain I’ll walk in faith, and I’ll rise again Oh-oh, we rise again Oh-oh, with love to give [Verse 2 - Rap] Monday bus, work boots, coffee gone cold Still got a little bit of courage to hold Try to speak truth, but I listen first Give what I can when the days get worse James says faith has to move, not just sit on a shelf So I show up for my people, give a hand, give myself From the Psalms to the stories where the lost get found I hear mercy in the message, let it travel around Not perfect, not polished, still growing each day When I miss the mark, I can turn, I can pray Different roads, one table, make a place, make it wide Love is how we let the light of God guide [Pre-Chorus] When I stumble, when I’m unsure I remember what love is for Every day, in the small things we do There’s a path leading me back to You [Chorus] God, keep my heart open, keep my hands kind Let me see my neighbor, leave no one behind Through the pages and the people, through the joy and the strain I’ll walk in faith, and I’ll rise again Oh-oh, we rise again Oh-oh, with love to give [Bridge] If your road feels heavy, you can walk with me There is room at the table, there is room to breathe We can carry each other through the hardest days With a little more patience, with a little more grace (Choir: Room to breathe, room to breathe) [Final Chorus] God, keep our hearts open, keep our hands kind Let us see each other, leave no one behind Through the pages and the people, through the joy and the strain We’ll walk in faith, and we’ll rise again Oh-oh, we rise again Oh-oh, with love to give [Outro] (Soft bells, choir ad-libs) With love to give We rise again
