Set the Burden Down

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Jose leaves the gate behind Keeps his shoulders squared in line Corner store, the bus rolls by He clocks each window, every side [Pre-Chorus] Home is quiet, hands still brace Every doorway gets a second glance [Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’re not on watch in this small town Every shift, every mile, every day You keep working the danger away Jose, there’s a chair and a light You don’t have to earn your rest tonight [Verse 2] Work boots by the kitchen door Lunch packed early, back for more Phone rings once, he’s on his feet Running every list on repeat [Pre-Chorus] The clock keeps turning, he won’t slow He learned to move before the “go” [Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’re not on watch in this small town Every shift, every mile, every day You keep working the danger away Jose, there’s a chair and a light You don’t have to earn your rest tonight [Bridge] No alarm, no roll call now Still your hands don’t know how To leave one thing unfinished To let the silence stay [Final Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’re not on watch in this small town Every shift, every mile, every day You keep working the danger away Jose, there’s a chair and a light You don’t have to earn your rest tonight [Outro] Set the burden down Rest tonight
