Let the Morning Wait

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The last train sighed along the river rail You held your paper cup against the cold A loose blue scarf kept slipping from your shoulder I caught it; you said, “Thank you,” soft and low [Pre-Chorus] The station clock moved slowly overhead One small hello changed where the evening led [Chorus] Stay until the platform clears Tell me what you’re thinking here We can let the morning wait While the quiet gathers round us If this meeting’s brief or true I’m glad the night brought me to you [Verse 2] We traded stories underneath the timetable Your hometown, my old jacket, one missed train You laughed and drew a circle on the window Then watched the rain erase it clean again [Pre-Chorus] The station clock moved slowly overhead One small hello changed where the evening led [Chorus] Stay until the platform clears Tell me what you’re thinking here We can let the morning wait While the quiet gathers round us If this meeting’s brief or true I’m glad the night brought me to you [Bridge] The first pale morning found us still together Two paper cups, one scarf, a borrowed day You asked me if I’d take the longer way home I said I hoped you’d ask me that again [Final Chorus] Stay until the platform clears Tell me what you’re thinking here We can let the morning wait While the quiet gathers round us And if every road leads through I’ll be glad it led me back to you [Outro] The train rolled on; we didn’t move The morning had a little room
