Keep One Candle

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The pass is buried past the pines My boots keep count of mile and stone Your blue scarf waits beside the door I carry every road back home The river’s locked beneath its skin The ravens turn above the field I hear your name inside the wind And hold it like a promise sealed [Pre-Chorus] If the snow takes every track If the north wind bends the trees Keep one candle in the window I will find my way by these [Chorus] When the winter closes in When the long road disappears I’ll be by your side, my love Through the frost and through the years When the dark lays down its weight When the morning feels too far I’ll be by your side, my love Wherever you are [Verse 2] I crossed the ridge at break of day With ice stitched silver to my sleeve A fiddle cried from someone’s hall Like the hills had learned to grieve I thought of bread set on the board Your hands still warm around the cup The farther that the cold wind pulled The more your voice could draw me up [Pre-Chorus] If the snow takes every track If the north wind bends the trees Keep one candle in the window I will find my way by these [Chorus] When the winter closes in When the long road disappears I’ll be by your side, my love Through the frost and through the years When the dark lays down its weight When the morning feels too far I’ll be by your side, my love Wherever you are [Bridge] No oath carved deep in iron No crown above the flame Just the shelter of your shoulder And the sound of my own name If the thaw comes late this year If the wolves call from the ridge I will cross the frozen country I will make it to your door [Final Chorus] When the winter closes in When the long road disappears I’ll be by your side, my love Through the frost and through the years When the dark lays down its weight When the morning finds its start I’ll be by your side, my love Home is where you are [Outro] Keep one candle in the window I can see it through the snow I’ll be by your side, my love I am coming home
