The Morning Finds Me Gone

Lyrics

[Verse 1] You kept your coat beside the door Though spring had warmed the hallway floor I found your note beneath the keys A list of things you meant to leave [Pre-Chorus] I read it once, then read it twice The paper held your careful lines [Chorus] I’m still learning how to stand With the quiet in this house There’s a cup you used to reach for And your name I won’t say out loud If the morning finds me different Let it find me honest, too I was never good at letting go But I’m trying here without you [Verse 2] The old clock skips a beat at ten Then finds its stubborn rhythm again Your garden gloves are by the sink I move them every time I think [Pre-Chorus] Some days I swear I hear the stairs Then turn and find the landing bare [Chorus] I’m still learning how to stand With the quiet in this house There’s a cup you used to reach for And your name I won’t say out loud If the morning finds me different Let it find me honest, too I was never good at letting go But I’m trying here without you [Bridge] I won’t make a shrine of what we were Or call the leaving something fair I’ll keep the parts that made me kinder And let the rest become the air [Final Chorus] I’m still learning how to stand With the quiet in this house I can leave your cup there one more day Then set it gently down If the morning finds me different Let it find me turning through I was never good at letting go But I’m learning how without you [Outro] The door stays shut, the clock moves on I let the morning find me gone
