Set the Bur Down

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Jose keeps his shoulder near the wall Counts each doorway when he enters the hall Work boots scuff the dust from another long day He checks the lock twice, then looks both ways [Pre-Chorus] No uniform now, no orders to hear Still every small sound puts him back on guard [Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’ve carried every shift through this tired town No rest, no room, just one more mile to go A civilian walking careful, moving slow Jose, the day is done—come home [Verse 2] Coffee gone cold beside the timecard stack His phone lights up; he lets it ring right back He knows every shortcut, every exit sign Keeps his hands steady, keeps his plans in line [Pre-Chorus] The street is quiet, but he scans the road Some habits stay when the old life’s closed [Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’ve carried every shift through this tired town No rest, no room, just one more mile to go A civilian walking careful, moving slow Jose, the day is done—come home [Bridge] You don’t have to earn the right to breathe You don’t have to watch the door for me Let the porch light hold its place tonight Let your hands unclench beneath the kitchen light [Final Chorus] Jose, you can set the burden down You’ve carried every shift through this tired town No rest, no room—but there’s a road back home A civilian, still alert, no longer alone Jose, the day is done—come home [Outro] The lock clicks once; the kettle starts to sing For now, there’s nothing left to guard tonight
