In the Beginning

Lyrics

[Intro – Driving strings, bold brass, male solo] Before the stars had filled the night, Before the earth was formed, The Spirit moved upon the deep, And God spoke through His Word. [Full choir – Triumphant] LET THERE BE LIGHT! Let the darkness flee! Let the heavens ring with glory, Let the world awake and see! LET THERE BE LIGHT! Let creation sing! By the Word all things were fashioned; All glory to the King! [Day One – Male lead] On the first day light came shining, At the bidding of the Lord; He called the light the day, And night the darkness He had formed. There was evening, there was morning, And the first day passed in light; God saw the light was good, And divided day from night. [Day Two – Sweeping strings] On the second day He made the heavens, Stretched their vault on high; He parted waters from the waters, Set the heavens in the sky. There was evening, there was morning, As creation heard His call; Every work obeyed its Maker, For His Word upheld it all. [Choir – Bright, rhythmic] Sing glory! Sing glory! To the Maker of all things! From the deep to highest heaven, Let His mighty praises ring! [Day Three – Gospel piano and brass] On the third day seas were gathered, And the dry land came to view; God called the land the earth, And clothed the fields in green anew. Every seed and fruit-bearing tree Rose from soil at His decree; And God looked upon His handiwork, And saw that it was good indeed! [Day Four – Soaring brass] On the fourth day He set the sun To rule the waking day; The moon to govern night, And stars to light the way. For days and years and seasons, He appointed each its place; The heavens shone in splendor, Declaring all His grace! [Choir – Driving refrain] Sing glory! Sing glory! Let the earth and heavens sing! Every star and every ocean Tells the glory of the King! [Day Five – Rising energy] On the fifth day oceans teemed With the creatures of the deep; Great sea beasts and darting fish Filled the waters far and wide. Birds took flight across the heavens, And He blessed them to increase; Skies and seas were filled with life, At the word of heaven’s King! [Day Six – Strong male lead] On the sixth day beasts came forth, The wild and tame alike; Then God declared, “Let Us make man In Our image, in Our likeness.” From the dust He formed our father, Breathed into him living breath; From his side He fashioned woman, Joined in love, without a trace of death. [Full choir – Jubilant] VERY GOOD! VERY GOOD! God beheld His work complete! All the heavens, earth and waters, Every life beneath His feet! [Day Seven – Majestic, steady tempo] On the seventh day God rested, Blessed the day and made it holy; All His works were now completed, All creation spoke His glory. In the garden lived the first two, Unashamed beneath the skies; The eternal Word was present, Before He took our flesh in time. [The Fall – Darker brass, drums keep driving] Then the serpent spoke with cunning, “Eat, and surely you won’t die.” Eve took fruit and Adam followed, Trusting in the serpent’s lie. Now their eyes were opened wide, But they only saw their shame; When the Lord walked in the garden, They hid at the sound of His name. [Male solo – Firm, sorrowful] “Adam, where are you?” He called, The eternal Word drew near; The One we know as Jesus Christ Found His children hiding there. Thorns would rise and toil would follow, Dust would claim them in the end; Yet amid the words of judgment, God declared the serpent’s end! [Bridge – Rising, powerful] “I will set between you enmity, Between your seed and hers; You shall strike against His heel, But He shall crush your head!” [Choir – Explosive] THE PROMISE! THE PROMISE! A hope beyond the grave! The Seed of woman shall arise, The fallen world to save! [Final chorus – Full orchestra, massive choir] LET THERE BE LIGHT! Let the heavens ring! The promised Seed of woman Is Jesus Christ our King! LET THERE BE LIGHT! Let all creation sing! The serpent’s head is crushed beneath Him; Death has lost its sting! [Call and response – Thunderous] Who spoke the worlds into existence? THE ETERNAL WORD! Who called to Adam in the garden? CHRIST THE LORD! Who took our flesh and conquered death? JESUS CHRIST! Who crushed the serpent’s ancient power? THE LORD OF LIFE! [Finale – Triumphant, soaring] From Eden’s trees to Calvary, From the tomb to victory, The Lord who gave creation life Has come to set us free! Christ is risen! Death is broken! Let the earth and heavens sing! The serpent’s head lies crushed forever; Christ our God is King! ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA! CHRIST OUR GOD IS KING! AMEN!
