The Owl Is Staring at Me

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I’m taking out the trash by the old pine tree When a pair of round eyes turns and looks at me Feathers on the fence post, still as a stone I wave like we’re neighbors, but I’m walking home [Pre-Chorus] One blink, two blinks, there you are Keeping your watch from the garden wall I shut the gate, I lock the door Then hear that soft wing brush once more [Chorus] The owl is staring at me The owl is staring at me Through the pumpkin grin, through the bare black tree The owl is staring at me I can spin, I can laugh, I can count to three But the owl is staring at me [Verse 2] At the costume party, I’m dressed like a ghost Everybody’s dancing, I’m checking the post There in the window, above the punch bowl Two bright eyes keeping an eye on my soul [Pre-Chorus] One blink, two blinks, there you are Keeping your watch from the garden wall I shut the gate, I lock the door Then hear that soft wing brush once more [Chorus] The owl is staring at me The owl is staring at me Through the pumpkin grin, through the bare black tree The owl is staring at me I can spin, I can laugh, I can count to three But the owl is staring at me [Bridge] Maybe it’s curious, maybe it knows Where I hid the candy in my coat I leave one chocolate beside the stair Turn around slowly—those eyes are there [Final Chorus] The owl is staring at me The owl is staring at me Through the pumpkin grin, through the bare black tree The owl is staring at me I can spin, I can laugh, I can count to three Still the owl is staring at me [Outro] I leave one chocolate by the old pine tree The owl is staring at me
