At the Rivers Edge

Lyrics

[Verse 1] Down by the river in Pandy, the supper is a sight, A pie so tall it needs its own small table for the night. The chips arrive in battalions, the gravy wears a grin, And someone’s ordered pudding just to see if they can win. [Chorus] At the Rivers Edge, pull up a chair, There’s room for your elbows and odd folk to spare. The river rolls by while the good plates get passed, Come hungry, leave happy, and loosen your belt at last! [Verse 2] Old Dai brings his umbrella though the sun is out and bright, He says it keeps the ducks from asking him directions right. Myrtle counts the teaspoons, then accuses one of theft, While Bert’s been telling Tuesday’s joke since Tuesday took its leave. [Chorus] At the Rivers Edge, pull up a chair, There’s room for your elbows and odd folk to spare. The river rolls by while the good plates get passed, Come hungry, leave happy, and loosen your belt at last! [Verse 3] The holiday guests have landed from a planet called Blorp Nine, They’ve got three moons in their luggage and a map made out of brine. They ask if Earth’s best supper is the glowing green dessert; The chef says, “That’s the peas, my dears,” and hands them each a shirt. [Bridge] One alien tried the gravy, then announced, “We’ll stay till June!” Their captain booked a table and requested extra spoon. The villagers all toasted, and the river gave a splash; A saucer paid the bill in coins that sounded just like cash. [Final Chorus] At the Rivers Edge, pull up a chair, There’s room for your elbows and odd folk to spare. The river rolls by while the good plates get passed, Come hungry, leave happy, and loosen your belt at last! At the Rivers Edge, where the strange ones belong, The pie’s out of this world—and the welcome’s twice as strong!
