Static in the DX Land

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I turn the dial Just a crackle and a hiss Some station out of Texas Fading in and out of this There's a voice beneath the static Like it's trapped behind the wall I lean in close to catch a number But I never hear the call [Chorus] Static in the DX land Static in the DX land A thousand miles of empty band And nothing I can hold in hand Just static in the DX land [Verse 2] I got a map taped to the window With a hundred pins and strings Every pin's a voice I've never heard And every string's a song that sings From a tower in the desert To a signal off the coast Every night I spin the tuner Like I'm reaching for a ghost [Chorus] Static in the DX land Static in the DX land A thousand miles of empty band And nothing I can hold in hand Just static in the DX land [Verse 3] My father had a receiver With a crack in the display He'd say "Son, the far-off stations Are the ones that got away" Now I'm older than he was then Still hunched over the glow Turning noise into a country That I'll never get to know [Chorus] Static in the DX land Static in the DX land A thousand miles of empty band And nothing I can hold in hand Just static in the DX land [Bridge] Maybe somewhere in the morning When the ionosphere is right A voice will punch through all this distance And I'll finally hear it clear tonight [Chorus] Static in the DX land Static in the DX land A thousand miles of empty band And nothing I can hold in hand Just static in the DX land Static in the DX land Static in the DX land
