Spiders in the Pie

Lyrics

[Intro] Gather round, good folks, the moon is on the rise! There's a pie beneath the counter and a twinkle in her eyes. [Verse 1] Miss Mabel runs a bakery on Pennywhistle Lane, Her apple pies are famous from the station to the train. She dusts her apron, checks the latch, then smiles at closing time— A little dish of spiders waits beside the cloves and lime. [Chorus] She puts spiders in the pie, dear, eight-legged, neat and small, Tucks them underneath the lattice where the cinnamon can fall. When the neighbors take a bite, they jump and yelp, “Oh, my!” Miss Mabel tips her bonnet: “Happy Halloween—and pie!” [Verse 2] The mayor came for seconds, with his medals shining bright, He praised the flaky pastry and declared the crust just right. Then something tickled near his nose; he dropped his silver spoon— The spiders made a grand parade beneath the harvest moon. [Chorus] She puts spiders in the pie, dear, eight-legged, neat and small, Tucks them underneath the lattice where the cinnamon can fall. When the neighbors take a bite, they jump and yelp, “Oh, my!” Miss Mabel tips her bonnet: “Happy Halloween—and pie!” [Bridge] Now don't you fret, they're sugar spun—no real ones in the tin! She keeps the harmless candy kind for every trick-or-treating grin. But if you hear a tap-tap-tap beneath your pastry crust, Just ask Miss Mabel sweetly; she may tell you if you must! [Final Chorus] She puts spiders in the pie, dear, eight-legged, neat and small, Sets a plate beside the pumpkin for the merriest feast of all. The whole town sings her recipe as leaves go tumbling by— Miss Mabel takes a bow and serves one more Halloween pie! [Outro] One more slice, now, don't be shy— Mind the spiders in the pie!
