Following the dark

Lyrics

[Verse 1] I wake up to the alarm at seven Put both feet on the hardwood floor There's a compass in my head that's spinin' Pointin' somewhere I ain't been before I follow it down to the kitchen Past the dishes I ain't put away It says keep goin', so I keep goin' Like the needle knows a better day [Chorus] And I follow, follow, follow it down Every road just leads to another letdown I try to hold my head up high But I'm braced for the crash before I Even try Follow, follow, follow it through It's a heavy, heavy thing to do But I follow [Verse 2] The neighbor waves from across the fence line Says the weather's finally turnin' fine I smile back like I ain't been drownin' In a flood I built up in my mind 'Cause I've learned that the happy is a gamble It costs more than I got in my hands So I save up every good day Like it's coins in a coffee can [Chorus] And I follow, follow, follow it down Every road just leads to another letdown I try to hold my head up high But I'm braced for the crash before I Even try Follow, follow, follow it through It's a heavy, heavy thing to do But I follow [Bridge] I remember livin' easy Back before I learned to count the cost Now I'm walkin' with my eyes closed Chasin' somethin' that I swear I lost I don't want to be the pessimist But hope's a door that swings back in my face So I keep my hands up, keep on movin' Just in case [Chorus] And I follow, follow, follow it down Every road just leads to another letdown I try to hold my head up high But I'm braced for the crash before I Even try Follow, follow, follow it through It's a heavy, heavy thing to do But I follow [Outro] I follow, follow, follow it down I follow, follow, follow it down I follow
