Where the Winter Roses Sleep

Lyrics

[Verse 1: Woman] You found me where the winter roses sleep, A silver thread of frost along the stair. You held your hand above the darkened keep, And asked if I could trust the night out there. [Verse 2: Man] I knew the dawn would take the road from us, The old stone gate would close before the spring. Still, every vow we whispered into dust Was more than any crown could ever bring. [Pre-Chorus: Woman and Man] If morning calls us by our names, If time unthreads this little flame, [Chorus: Woman and Man] Hold my hand while the pale bells ring, Hold my hand through the gathering snow. Though the thorns may take the hem of spring, There is one place I will always go: Where your hand is warm in mine, Where our two hearts cross the line. [Verse 3: Woman] The painted birds above the chapel door Have watched a hundred goodbyes come and pass. I leave my ribbon on the marble floor; You leave your shadow in the looking glass. [Verse 4: Man] The towers lean beneath a violet sky, The orchard sleeps beneath its veil of white. If I must lose the world to say goodbye, I’ll spend this last small hour beside your light. [Bridge: Woman] No curse can make the heart forget. [Bridge: Man] No winter takes what we have met. [Bridge: Woman and Man] And if we part beneath the yew, I’ll find the road that leads to you. [Final Chorus: Woman and Man] Hold my hand as the last bells ring, Hold my hand where the wild roses grow. Even night cannot undo this thing; Even lost, I will know where to go. Where your hand was warm in mine, Where our two hearts crossed the line. [Outro: Wordless Choir] Ah—ah—ah
