Summer Water

Lyrics

[Verse 1] The blue tarp rolled up by the cedar fence Dad set the chairs where the shade made sense Mom had a paperback folded in her hand I ran for the ladder and forgot my plan [Pre-Chorus] That first cold jump took my breath away Then the whole wide world was a Saturday [Chorus] Summer water, splash it high Chlorine in the warm July sky Sunscreen sweet on the breeze drifting by While Mom turns a page and the clouds roll by We were kings of the deep end, wild and free Just a kid, a pool, and a whole long day Summer water, carry me Back to that easy, sun-soaked place [Verse 2] My brother kept score with a plastic cup We built a raft that would barely stay up A towel on the rail, wet footprints on stone No one checked clocks, no one called us home [Pre-Chorus] The sun laid gold on the waterline And every small thing felt like mine [Chorus] Summer water, splash it high Chlorine in the warm July sky Sunscreen sweet on the breeze drifting by While Mom turns a page and the clouds roll by We were kings of the deep end, wild and free Just a kid, a pool, and a whole long day Summer water, carry me Back to that easy, sun-soaked place [Bridge] Now I pass that house on the way across town The chairs are gone, but I still hear the sound Of bare feet racing and a screen door swing One more cannonball before supper rings [Final Chorus] Summer water, splash it high Chlorine in the warm July sky Sunscreen sweet on the breeze drifting by While Mom turns a page and the clouds roll by We were kings of the deep end, wild and free Just a kid, a pool, and a whole long day Summer water, carry me Back to that easy, sun-soaked place [Outro] One more jump, one more day Summer water, carry me away
