D&D voice changer

D&D voice changer for game masters

Give every NPC a different voice. Voices AI Live converts your microphone with AI in real time, so your players hear the villain, the innkeeper, or the dragon in Discord, Roll20, or Foundry, and you switch voices between scenes.

Works with Discord and browser-based tabletops like Roll20 and Foundry VTT on Windows 10 or later and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or later. Not affiliated with Wizards of the Coast, Roll20, or Foundry Gaming.

How to use a voice changer with D&D

1

Install Voices AI Live

Download the free app for Windows or Mac and accept the virtual microphone install. Restart if your computer asks you to.

2

Pick a voice

Preview the voices in the app, or clone your own from a 5-second recording, and select one.

3

Select the microphone

In Discord, choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac under Voice & Video. In Roll20 or Foundry, allow microphone access in the browser and pick the same microphone.

4

Run the session

Switch voices in Voices AI Live between scenes and characters.

NPC voices without the vocal strain

Doing a dozen voices over a four-hour session tires your throat. An AI voice changer does the heavy lifting, so you can focus on the story. Pick a deep voice for the villain, something playful for the bard, and keep your own voice for narration.

Browser tabletops and Discord

Most groups talk in Discord while playing on Roll20 or Foundry. Select the Voices AI microphone in Discord and that is all you need. If your group uses the tabletop's built-in voice, choose the microphone in your browser's site settings.

D&D voice changer not working? Quick fixes

Discord doesn't list the Voices AI microphone

Start Voices AI Live first, then fully quit and reopen Discord so it rescans audio devices. Look for CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac. If it is still missing, restart your computer to finish the virtual microphone install.

Roll20 or Foundry uses my normal microphone

Open the browser's site settings for the tabletop, choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac as the microphone, and reload the page.

The voice sounds robotic, choppy, or cuts out

Turn off extra noise suppression in the app you are talking in, close GPU-heavy programs you are not using, and check that your computer meets the Voices AI Live system requirements.

Other people hear an echo or their own voice

Use headphones. Speaker audio leaking into your real microphone gets converted and sent back to everyone.
