Set CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) as the default recording device in Windows Sound settings, or Voices AI Virtual Mic as the input on Mac. Dota 2 and Steam use that device for voice chat.
In Dota 2 Settings > Audio, enable voice chat, set your push-to-talk key, and test it in a lobby.
Dota 2 voice chat uses your computer's default recording device, and on some setups it points you to Steam's voice settings instead. Making the Voices AI microphone your default input covers both. If Dota 2 still hears your old mic, restart the game after you change the default.
Steam Settings > Voice has a microphone test, so you can hear the AI voice before you queue.
In ranked matches, clear comms matter more than a funny voice: pick a clear voice and use push-to-talk. Save the chaotic voices for unranked, Turbo, and lobbies with friends.
Voices AI Live is an audio device, not a game modification. It does not touch Dota 2's files or memory.
Start Voices AI Live first, then fully quit and reopen Steam so it rescans audio devices. Look for CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac. If it is still missing, restart your computer to finish the virtual microphone install.
Set the Voices AI microphone as the default recording device, disable inputs you don't use, and restart Dota 2.
Check that voice chat is enabled in Dota 2 Settings > Audio and your push-to-talk key is bound, then run the microphone test in Steam Settings > Voice.
Use headphones. Speaker audio leaking into your real microphone gets converted and sent back to everyone.
Voices AI Live does not read, modify, or inject into Dota 2 - the game only sees a microphone, like a USB headset. Valve's rules on player behavior still apply, so don't use voices to harass or impersonate other players or staff.
