Rust voice changer

Rust voice changer for proximity chat

Rust is built around proximity voice chat, and a different voice changes every encounter. Voices AI Live converts your microphone with AI in real time, so other players hear a character or a parody voice instead of you, while Rust only sees a normal microphone.

Works with Rust on Windows 10 or later. Not affiliated with Facepunch Studios.

How to use a voice changer with Rust

1

Install Voices AI Live

Download the free Windows app and accept the virtual microphone install. Restart if Windows asks you to.

2

Pick a voice

Preview the voices in the app, or clone your own from a 5-second recording, and select one.

3

Make it your Windows input

In Windows Settings > System > Sound > Input, choose CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable). If the game has its own microphone setting, select it there too.

4

Talk in proximity chat

Use your voice chat key in game. Nearby players hear the AI voice.

Proximity chat ideas

Play a friendly trader with a calm narrator voice, defend your base as a terrifying villain, or confuse raiders with a voice they have never heard on the server. Because the conversion is AI-based, your reactions and timing stay yours.

Best Rust settings for an AI voice

Use push-to-talk so the AI only converts what you mean to say, keep your microphone gain moderate, and wear headphones so gunfire does not leak into the conversion. Start Voices AI Live before Rust so the microphone is ready when the game loads.

Rust voice changer not working? Quick fixes

Rust doesn't list the Voices AI microphone

Start Voices AI Live first, then fully quit and reopen Rust so it rescans audio devices. Look for CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) on Windows or Voices AI Virtual Mic on Mac. If it is still missing, restart your computer to finish the virtual microphone install.

Other players hear my normal voice

Make CABLE Output (VB-Audio Virtual Cable) the default input in Windows Settings > System > Sound > Input, then restart Rust.

The voice sounds robotic, choppy, or cuts out

Turn off extra noise suppression in the app you are talking in, close GPU-heavy programs you are not using, and check that your computer meets the Voices AI Live system requirements.

Other people hear an echo or their own voice

Use headphones. Speaker audio leaking into your real microphone gets converted and sent back to everyone.

Questions about this setup

Can I get banned in Rust for using a voice changer?

Voices AI Live does not read, modify, or inject into Rust; the game only sees a microphone, like a USB headset. Facepunch's rules on player behavior still apply, so don't use voices to harass or impersonate other players or staff.

Can nearby enemies hear the AI voice?

Yes. Rust voice chat is proximity based, so anyone close enough hears your converted voice.

Is the voice changer free?

Yes. Voices AI Live is free to download and includes free voices. Premium unlocks the rest of the voice library for $9.99/month or $59.99/year.

Is Voices AI Live an official Rust app?

No. Voices AI is not affiliated with Rust. Voices AI Live works as a virtual microphone that you select in your audio settings, the same way you would pick a USB headset.

Is my voice uploaded anywhere?

No. Voice conversion runs locally on your computer. Nothing is recorded or sent to a server; your audio goes straight from Voices AI Live to the app you are using.
